LG 490 is the first mobile phone in Canada to offer complete messaging solution with the Fastap keypad, MSN® Messenger and My Email solution for improved access to MSN® Hotmail

Vancouver, B.C. –September 14, 2006 - TELUS today announced the LG 490, featuring Digit Wireless' innovative Fastap keypad that integrates raised letter keys around a standard numeric phone keypad. This innovative design allows for simple and intuitive text entry so Canadians can easily send text, picture, instant messages and email from the palm of their hand. My Email provides an enhanced user experience for access to MSN Hotmail and is an excellent addition to TELUS' SPARK line-up of mobile entertainment, information and messaging services.

"Email, instant messaging and text messaging have become key parts of everyday lives, with Canadians already sending close to nine million text messages daily," said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS senior vice-president of Products and Services. "TELUS is committed to making communicating easy for its clients. The LG 490's combination of the Fastap keypad, MSN Messenger and My Email, uniquely showcases TELUS' SPARK messaging line-up, making texting, instant messaging and emailing while out-and-about faster and simpler than ever before."

MSN Hotmail and MSN Messenger are the Canadian market leaders in online email and instant messaging respectively, with more than 15.9 million Canadians using MSN Hotmail and 14.2 million Canadians using MSN Messenger*.

The LG 490 also features a built-in digital camera with zoom, Bluetooth® support for compatible accessories and as a wireless modem, and SPARK services including Web browsing and downloadable videos, images and ringtones. The LG 490 sports a stylish black flip phone design and is available on promotional pricing for as low as $79.99 on a three-year contract until October 1, 2006 or $249.99 without a contract.

Type simply and intuitively with Fastap

In 2004, TELUS became the first wireless provider in the world to offer Fastap technology. Within months of the launch, TELUS found that clients with the Fastap phone typically sent more than twice as many text messages as users of other handsets.

"The launch of the Fastap LG 490 demonstrates that TELUS goes above and beyond to satisfy their clients' needs to make their mobile life simple," said Mark Connon, CEO, Digit Wireless. "We have enjoyed witnessing how consumers embraced the first phone TELUS offered with the Fastap keypad technology. The Fastap LG 490 is simply a better way to discover, access and use all of the great mobile messaging and wireless data services that TELUS makes available to its clients. Today's announcement is indicative that Fastap continues to come to the forefront as the leading solution for alphanumeric entry on mainstream phones."

Developed by Digit Wireless, the Fastap keypad is the first that integrates letter and punctuation keys around the standard numeric keypad on a mobile phone. The intuitive interface allows clients to compose messages significantly faster than with a standard keypad, eliminating the "triple tapping" often required to input a single letter.

Convenient email and instant messaging

My Email, which will be available later this month, provides an enhanced MSN Hotmail experience while on-the-go, allowing clients to read, reply, write and forward emails and even receive notification of new email when the phone is closed. My Email, powered by OZ Communications, will cost $3 per month, including unlimited usage in select SPARK bundles. TELUS My Email will support additional email services and handsets shortly.

"As mobile technology continues to converge, consumer focused email has become an increasingly important feature for consumers. We are very pleased to be working with TELUS in extending the widely popular MSN Hotmail and MSN Messenger services to Canadians," said Skuli Mogensen, CEO and Founder of OZ. "With the OZ Mobile Email Solution on the Fastap device, TELUS clients have the added flexibility to stay connected with their friends and family while they are on the go."

Also available on the LG 490, MSN Messenger service allows users to stay connected at all times. With Fastap, Instant Messaging is truly "instant" with the ability to respond quickly and easily to incoming messages using IM "slang/shorthand" or complete messages.
